Hi all, quick question. Is there an actual gasket for cylinder head cover to fit over the whole head assembly? I am tired of silicone. Currenty having ALL my cylinder head threads made due to an bolt oil leak that ended up in bolt thread dissaster. Good thing is I ventured into thread making :)contributiong to the aforementioned mess.

Hey, use a Anerobic Sealant I use Loctite 515 , flange sealant.
Master gasket any thing Anerobic , mine is red :)

Are you going to use Heli-Coils? if so go gentle they like to jump threads, do for me anyhow:)
I prefer Certs, a bit cost prohibitive tho!

Will look up to the red stuff... I think he will be using coils at some point, options are to turn all threads into M7 or return them to M6.

In the meantime, take a look at this shadow on the cylinder barrel:

There seems to be an issue with the rod because it's exactly the same side the 411 was damaged on. I have not changed the oil rings for the good ones just yet.

Any comments on this guys?

What do you mean by hot side? The scratched side is below the exhaust connection. Same side. That is about 7000+- km with 477. Almost 32000 now.

how does it feel to your thumb nail? Looks good enough

EDIT, looks worse when seen correctly:oops:

Well, no grooves to the touch. You mean it could be nothing? Not sure if I should take cylinder apart and do other tests.

if your finger nail can't find anything should be OK. Hey but only 6 bolts and it is off you can change the Oil Ring.

I take that Back, I first watched on my Phone, just got home and saw it on the big screen so to speak.

Its been getting very hot and has started to think about welding itself, that would be the lines. But getting extra hot how or when? seems like it was a while back but hard to tell, did the Oil smell

Well, oil did smell. I think that is what I smelled. I change oil every 3000 km but this time went up to almost 5000 because I just did city commuting. I has new oil now, not sure now.

Should I take the rod and crankshaft to rectification? Forcing the 477 to extremes is something I haven't really done. 3 offroad trips since the installation and trip to a mud pool and the rest just work-home stuff.

What indicates the Rod/crankshaft is a problem?

They look pretty solid to me.

Yeah you are right, in fact that will more on the side of AFR maybe? Timing? Or it can just be nothing. Debris maybe from the break in period? should I take apart and check anything else?

the thing with the oil rings is: the original one tend to break. if they are not broken they work well. yes, change them but if the are unbroken when you change them they are not responsible for any overheating. you used full sythetic oil I assume? then changing every 3000 is not needed and even 5000 is generous. I change synth oil every 10.000.

So it was not a rings issue. These have worked pretty well no traces of oil anywhere but thru the bolt threads. Yes I use full synthetic 10-40 EXS Belray.

Currently putting everything back together. Discovered a groove caused by the timing chain I believe. New threads finally ready. $80 total vs a full new cylinder head assembly from the dealer at $500.

timing chain replacement was suggested at 30.000km for the BS3, from bs4 onward they changed that to 50.000 but it is the same part number so I would err on the safe side and replace it, its cheap

Wish I had one for spare. Will ask at the dealer. If no, it will take days to arrive.

The picture of the head shows the threads repaired or before.
Cam chain is available on ebay complete kit with sprocket lockwasher and guides probably quicker than a dealerScreenshot_20230407_180825_com.ebay.mobile.jpg

The chain is 124 links and is used in other bikes, may be available from a Honda dealer or a Chain company.
