scram preload adjusters

I just bought some Hitchcocks scram fork preload adjusters, and was wondering if there is enough clearance under the stock bars, or will I have to install bar risers to make them fit. also will the preload spacers have to be trimmed to make the adjuster fit,-----thanks

my bike is in Chennai and I am on Phillip Island in Aust, and the parts are in transit from England to Aust, will be fitting them to bike in November, I was just hoping someone had already done the mod on their bike, so the information could remain verbal.
I'm not that tech savvy, will try and learn to post pics and stuff -- just tried my first photo hope it worked

A bit off topic: your bike seems to have Indian registration, do you hope to ride it in Australia? if so HOW?
 
I keep my scram in Chennai at my friends place, and return every year and go riding and stuff. I just went to the Hitchcocks website and ordered some parts and then bring them with me when I return in November this year, yes it's Chennai reg, and it's got about 10,000 k's on the clock.
In 2004 I bought a pre unit 500cc standard bullet, brand new, and rode it every year , but sold it in 2023 and got the scram.
From Hitchcocks I ordered the preload adjusters, spare front brake pads, rear shock sock cover ( the rear hugger was to expensive to post ), front guard riser kit, and locally I bought a DNA stage 2 air filter.

OK, makes sense, I rode a 2001 500cc right gear bullet all the way from Poona to Germany in 2002, then bought a 500 UCE in 2014 but with the advent of the 2016 Hima I immediately change over. its been Hima ever since until the 440, the "better Hima", appeared. of course all my Himas eventually where converted to race horses with 500cc and stuff. With the carby version that is extremly simple to do.
Did you know that in India the front pads from the Yamaha FZ16/FZS fits, they are sintered, much better and cheaper too.
 
Poona to Germany must have been a great run, Madras to the Middle East and back in a couple of weeks would be a regular run for me if everyone was friendly, I didn't like the UCE bullet , when enfield went modern with the Hima, I wanted one but the front wheel was to big, so when the scram appeared, that was perfect and I said goody to the" Old is gold " bullet.
The scram lacks power, but riding 100+ horsepower bikes in Aust it's nice to just cruise in India, I focus on improving the brakes and suspension, and the scram is reasonably comfortable sitting on 100 kmh on the highway. If you want to go any faster you should be on the track -- remember a day on the race track is worth a years experience on the public road.
Without a doubt sintered pads are better than non sintered but they chew up your discs quicker, in my experience imported non sintered seem to be as good if not better than Indian sintered, the down side is they are bloody expensive but it still works out cheaper than wearing out your discs.
I must have scored a bad batch , but the front disk was scored beyond use after 1200k's on my new scram, couldn't find a brembo front replacement so , bought a ECB from Hitchcocks , now I'm chasing a front caliper, maybe one from the enfield 650, or hopefully the 440 front caliper-- time will tell.

Having fitted the adjusters on my Himalayan( from Aliexpress) I would say you need to move the handle bars

I suspected as much ----- I think the scram has 10mm or so less fork travel than the Himma, did you have to modify/ replace the preload spacers as well ?
 
No just fitted the adjusters.
 
have you worked out an easy way to turn my 411 scram into a 440 yet ?
not possible without spectacular expenses if you want the real 440 - but of course you can always get a sintered front pad, a 477cc BB kit from us and a Powertronic and have a "better than 440" Scram. I hardly ever use the 6th gear - but in the west that may be different.

your 477 kit would be unreal ,but probably wasted on me, any upgrades I did would have to be stock enfield factory parts, mainly because stock parts are a lot easier and quicker to access.
I guess I was thinking if it was just a 440 piston and barrel swap over I might look into it, I have a good mechanic in Madras to do the work for me, I will check part prices when I get back to madras and go from there.
yes 6th gear in the west is very handy , but all my scram riding is in India, I regularly do Chennai to Bangalore -- Chennai to Kerala and back on the state highways and 6th gear is selected constantly, good for fuel economy and the extra torque from a 440 or bigger would be great for 6th gear roll ons. ( maybe ), right now if the external preload adjusters can calm the head shake and wandering at 100 to120kmh then I'll be a happy man. --- time will tell.

we tried the barrel change on a Hima BS6, same engine. The 440 has 2 o2 sensors, the BS6 only one, if you use the correct TB your yellow engine light will always be on and the ECU probably will do things you dont want ... :-)
To make it work you would need to change the entire cabling and because of the difference in gear indication and instrumentation there may lurk additional problems.

Well after I removed the ABS system on my scram , my instruments are useless, well the fuel indicator still works but that's all -- so gear indication and instrumentation doesn't matter to me, but yes I can see from your trials it's not an easy fix
